When an alcoholic droplet, that contains some dissolved polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA), is placed on top of an oil bath, the alcohol will evaporate and lead to complex fluid dynamics inside the droplet. At the same time, once the alcohol concentration drops below a threshold, the PMMA will start to precipitate. The complex flow structure in the droplet, combined with the PMMA fall out, leads to the creation of thin, fibre-like, beautifully growing extensions at the droplet rim – a yarning droplet.
